The term, "developmental disabilities," [i.e., severe chrome conditions that are due to mental and/or physical impairments with an age of onset prior to age 22] "Intellectual disabilities/Mental Retardation", "physical disabilities", and "autism" are terms that are used in India and are subsumed our use of the term developmental disabilities (Center for Disease Control&Prevention, 2004). Mental retardation is one of the most prevalent developmental disabilities. Mental retardation, mental deficiency, mental sub normality and mental handicap, developmental disability or delay are the terms used to refer to the same condition. The terms used m the past such as amentia, idiocy, feeble minded, moron, imbecile and oligophrenia are now obsolete. According to the World Health Organization(1994); Syle(1975); According to the World Health Organization(1994); approximately 156 million people or 3 percent of the world's population have mental retardation. Coping has been defined as problem solving efforts made by an individual when the demands of a given situation tax adaptive resources (Lazarus et al., 1974; Pearlm&Schooler, 1978). To Sturdy of coping strategies used by the parents of mentally retarded and autistic children. A sample of 70 parents i.e. 35 parents of mentally retarded children (18 fathers and 17 mothers ) and 35 parents of autistic children were taken from different institutions of Raipur(Samwedna, Asha, Deep, & Kopalwani) and Chandigarh (Pryaas) who were fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for the present study. The tools used for assessing the variables are Socio Demographic Data Sheet (Self made), The Cope Scale (Carver et al., 1989). This study revealed that Significant differences were found in two coping strategies, i.e., planning and alcohol drug disengagement both being used more by Parents of autistic children and mentally retaded.Keywords

The purpose of this study was to compare the mental health of Indian and Foreign participants as an effect of meditation, as a stress management technique. Total 40 participants were assigned randomly and divide them into two groups namely Indian participants (20) and Foreign participants (20). Each group of participants further, bifurcated into males (10) and females (10). In this study we included only those participants who are practicing meditation at least from three months ago and having age between 45-65 years. We administered mental health inventory constructed by Jagdish and Srivastava (1983). The inventory measures mental health in six dimensions such as Positive Self-Evaluation, Perception of Reality, Integration of Personality, Autonomy, Group Oriented Attitude and Environmental Mastery. Data were collected from different meditation centers of Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun districts of Uttarakhand State. Results showed significant difference between Indian and Foreign participants on all the six dimensions of mental health. Gender of each group did not show any significant difference on any dimension of mental health, however significant difference found between both groups of males as well as females on almost all the dimensions of mental health. Interaction between participants and gender of both the groups found to be significant on the dimension of perception of reality whereas, gender of both groups showed significant difference on all dimensions of mental health.Keywords

Tribes are generally established as a stage or category of society that lacks the positive characteristics of modern culture, resulting in a simple, ignorant, and backward community. Gujarat comprises 8.1 percent of the country’s Scheduled Tribe population. Relying solely on agriculture for improving the socio-economic status of the tribal communities could not serve as a reliable source because of the uneven geographical attributes of the landscape. The state government has made a concerted effort to develop Scheduled Tribes dominated areas. The State’s initiatives for Scheduled Tribes have a long-term objective of improving their quality of life by enhancing and ensuring their right to schooling, health care, and economic development. This can be characterized by the State government’s massive initiatives in the formation and implementation of different various programs and innovative schemes toward the sustainable livelihood and development of the tribal regions. The present study is an effort to review the insights of all the government-initiated programs that aim to enhance the socio-economic status of these schedule tribes. The study also focused to analyze the impact of these schemes on the growth of tribes without affecting their inherent culture and lifestyle.Keywords
